The Vila Brothers Park at 700 N. Armenia in Tampa is dedicated to seven brothers that served in different branches of the military from WWII to Desert Storm. Armory Gardens residents are honored to have such an amazing green space and monument in our neighborhood.
The Vila brothers are Tampa natives who grew up in the area around the park and whose history of service in the military runs from World War II to Desert Storm. The Vila brothers were part of a large Tampa family that also included seven sisters, their mother and father. The Vila brothers’ legacy began just after Pearl Harbor was bombed, propelling the United States into World War II. The family matriarch, Carmen Garcia Vila,
vowed to not eat bread if God would bring her sons home to her. Since all of her sons served in the military over the course of her lifetime, it turns out she never again ate a piece of bread.
With much fanfare and a visit from members of the Vila family, Tampa's Mayor and others, the Grand Opening of the updated and improved park was held on May 29, 2023. Improvements included a walking trail, new patriotic themed playground, pickleball courts and permanent shelters.
The Vila Brothers Park is the cornerstone for Civic Association events and activities. From Easter Egg Hunts to Movies in the Park, we try to plan something for everyone!
With it's lighted basketball courts and open fields, the Park is a favorite with athletes and weekend warriors alike.
